The Immortals are Coming!

As I mentioned in my Versatile Award post on October 18th, this blog would be going through some changes. This might be the first of them. Mondays may become an Immortal Monday theme. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy this idea I’m toying around with in my head. I will do my best to make it interesting for everyone. I am slightly partial to this subject since an immortal or two may pop up in my current work-in-progress. Of course, I will give you no hints as to what kind of immortal. Muahahahaha

On an Immortal Monday, we would have fun looking at Immortals and beyond – to everything in the supernatural world that affect their lives as well as the worlds they live in. We’d do this for movies, books, fairytales and folklore – anything that catches our fancy. It would be a coffee time discussion of what we like or dislike on our chosen topic for that day.

Would you want to be immortal? Or maybe it’s eternal youth you find appealing? In Alyson Noel’s Everlasting, the final installment of The Immortals series, we meet an immortal who no longer has her youth but has slowly aged through the years. She appears an old weathered hag. Would one choose immortality at such a cost? Or as Edward points out to Bella in the Twilight series, after a few decades everyone she knows will be dead, thereby leaving few ties to worry about. Would you… could you… live with that?

Immortality has captured the fancy of many for a very long time, but immortality is not
without costs. High costs. Years and years of them. Still, we love immortals. Love to read about them and watch them on television or the big screen. Why not? They almost always have long and varied histories, not to mention they’re usually depicted as gorgeous individuals with amazing strength and agility.

This coming Friday marks the release of the new upcoming film Immortals. Here is another example where immortals are portrayed as young and mighty. But these immortals are god-like with their powers and strengths. The story borrows from the legends of Zeus, the Titans, and a weapon of unimaginable power.

In the film, a massive battle has taken place among the immortals. The winners have gone on to become known as Gods (Zeus and his court) while the losers are entombed on earth as Titans. Now, many years later, the loathsome King Hyperion wishes to unleash the Titans and take control of all the land. He marches across the country leaving a wake of destruction, his goal to capture the legendary Epirus Bow in order to release the Titans imprisoned in Mount Tartaros. Because the Gods cannot interfere, the only hope for saving the day is a peasant – a human – named Theseus.

Prior to the first teaser trailer I hadn’t heard anything about this movie. I’m trying to  keep my exposure to a minimum so as not to spoil anything. So far reviews are looking really good on this one. Mickey Rourke is said to put in a fantastic performance as the villain king. And the film is chock full of eye candy  wonderful actors and actresses. I plan to be there for opening weekend. How about you?

  1. I love the idea of immortal Monday. I am fascinated by the mythology surrounding all the legends of Gods and Goddesses. I have studied many of the alleged characteristics of these immortalsa and use them in the creation of my characters.

Well then Sharon, I will have to be sure to cover the Gods and Goddesses on a Monday in the future. 😉 There are so many, they might each need their own feature. 😀 Thanks for popping in with the comment. I appreciate it.

  2. Krystal Wade says:

No picture of my immortal in your article…sigh.

  3. O.M.G.

I hadn’t heard of this movie – how is that possible? It’s exactly what I love in movies and the cute guy doesn’t hurt.

Immortal Monday sounds fabulous! LIke Sharon, I’m fascinated by them and have several in my fantasy series. Any chance to learn more is welcomed.

This movie just snuck up on us. But it has seriously got my interest. Too bad you don’t live closer, we could have totally made a girls trip out of it. 🙂

I’m glad you like the idea. I hope it drums up conversation beyond simply informing. Maybe someday I’ll be able to feature your immortals, after you make it big and your book goes to print. 🙂

  4. Totally stoked for this film! Done by the same people who did 300…yeah, it’s gonna be good! I really like your Immortal Monday theme!

    • Debra Kristi says:

Thank you Myndi. I hope I can do it justice. It will be fun researching and writing! Hope you pop in to check it out from time to time. Glad you could make it by today. 😀

  5. I hardly ever go to movies anymore – it’s just too expensive! But we do have a 55″ TV hooked to a computer, so this sounds like a good one for the Amazon queue! Immortal Mondays sounds like fun – subscribed!

    • Debra Kristi says:

I can understand that. When we go to the movies with the kids it’s super expensive. Add any snacks on-top of that and forget about it. It’s a painful outing. Thanks for the subscription! I am also subscribed to your RSS feed. Hopefully Immortal Monday quickly finds its rhythm.
